Synopsis
To the world, Europe is a wonderland abundant in rich culture, historic architecture, exquisite delicacies, heart-warming locals, and a place without borders for everyone to explore and experience. To Europeans, it is their dwelling place. A place that is constantly on the verge of collapse due to financial crisis, political bureaucracies, unsystematic migration policies, and now, the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. For more than a year, the decision to reopen Europe's external and internal borders was left to the discretion of each member state, jeopardizing the collective freedom, security, equality, well-being, and solidarity among the European countries.\n\nWho Are EU? is a documentary film that aims to create an intercultural dialogue among its inhabitants from all 27 member states to work together in establishing cohesion and unity, especially in times of crisis. It will shed light on the underlying social issues in relation to human rights, diversity and inclusion, cultural identities, immigration challenges, socio-economic inequalities, and inept governance that citizens, immigrants, asylum seekers, and foreign workers struggle with on a daily basis. Our purpose is to shift the focus and power to the people by giving them a platform and a voice to express their convictions on how leaders, organizations, individuals and their communities can help blur the borders between countries to create a diverse, sustainable, and better perspective of the European Union.\n\nThe film will take you on a journey across the picturesque landscapes, urban and rural settlements, the quaint and bustling streets of the 27 member states. Through looking into European windows, we get a first-hand understanding of its inhabitants' homes and the particular lives they lead. At the same time, we also get a glimpse of their own perspective and the kind of Europe they see when they look outside their window.\n\nThe interviews and exchanges between the individuals in the different member states hailing from all walks of life will create a mosaic-like film that unifies diverse viewpoints, interests, struggles, commonalities, and differences, which will ultimately reflect the peace, cohesion, and solidarity we are striving to achieve in the European Union. We deserve to have a system that is shaped by the people, for the people.
