Biography
Described as "a creature of the stage" by a respected figure in the theatre world, William has been a professional actor for nearly two decades. He graduated with honours from Dawson College's Professional Theatre Program (The Dome Theatre) in Montreal in 1995 and began working immediately. William has had the privilege of portraying some of theatre’s most iconic roles, as well as a few lesser-known characters from plays best forgotten. His résumé features a notable Shakespearean focus, with roles such as Richard III, Iago, Oberon, Belch, and Mercutio, though he assures audiences he can speak fluently in modern vernacular.
William’s passion for theatre and love of wandering have meant his film and television credits are less extensive. However, after years of traveling across the continent, he has now settled in Toronto to develop that part of his career. Early on, in the late 1990s, he gained valuable on-set experience through lead roles in short films and various stand-in and SOC positions. Since moving to Toronto, he has secured a number of lead and co-starring roles and is enthusiastic about future opportunities.
Known as a character-driven performer, William’s creative choices have led several directors to remark that he takes scenes in unexpected and compelling directions—paths that make the final cut. He thrives on collaboration, respects his role as an actor, and when given the chance to contribute creatively, his imagination often leaves a lasting impression. Naturally easygoing, William gets along well with most people.
Among his many stage achievements, one of William’s proudest is the ongoing success of a production he co-created at Shakespeare by the Sea in 2005. As co-writer of the continually evolving Robin Hood: The Legendary Musical Comedy, his writing took a strong supporting role to his acting. The show’s most recent production at Hart House Theatre in 2013 was its most spectacular, earning numerous accolades—Glenn Sumi called it "the biggest theatrical surprise of 2013" and Mooney on Theatre praised it as "consistently outstanding in almost every regard." Beyond the praise, it brought abundant laughter and applause, leading William to realize he is also a writer.
In the coming six months, some of his writing will be available on a YouTube channel tentatively titled "Billy & Friends." Stay tuned for much more from William.
William also goes by the artistic pseudonym "Kreddible Trout," under which he photographs and previously shared poetry. Search for him online—he’ll likely chuckle.
