For Michael James Sewell Jr., acting was never part of the plan. Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Michael relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, with no intention of becoming an actor. Yet what began as a simple step into the entertainment industry quickly became God's divine purpose for his life. In just four years, Michael has evolved from a complete newcomer into one of independent film's most respected leading men an inspiring journey built on faith, perseverance, humility, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Michael's journey began with background work, learning the business from the ground up while studying the craft. One of his earliest opportunities came with an appearance in Immortal City Records, starring Ron Rico Lee, where he gained invaluable on set experience and discovered a passion that would forever change his life. He later appeared in Tyler Perry's Netflix feature Straw, another milestone in his rapidly growing career.
His breakout role came as Dre in BFF's, introducing audiences to his charisma and commanding screen presence. That momentum led to one of the defining performances of his career G Money in Silk White's hit series Tears of a Hustler, where his portrayal of the iconic and infamous character helped establish the series as one of Tubi's most celebrated independent productions.
Refusing to be typecast, Michael showcased his versatility as Tyrone in Poly Love in Peach City and Poly Love in Peach City 2, opening the door to an ever-expanding body of work.
