Biography
Adnan Al Rajeev started his journey in the visual medium, more than a decade ago. He started his career as an Assistant Director in the production house 'Chabial', founded by the reputed filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, of Bangladesh. After the 5 years journey as an Assistant Director, Adnan Al Rajeev made his debut as a director. He is the founder of production house, 'Runout Films'. 'Runout Films' made nearly 1000 commercials for the last 14 years.
Adnan Al Rajeev single handedly made more than 500 TV Commercials. He also honed his craft in TV & Web Fiction. He debuted as a full-fledged filmmaker with the TV film 'Ucchotoro Podartho Biggan,' back in 2008. Then he made few more TV Fictions, named; 'All Time Dourer Upor,' 'Middleclass Sentiment' & 'Bikel Belar Pakhi.' All of his works received critical acclamation from all over the country. His distinct style of filmmaking, youth based themes, family dynamics and realistic approach to the stories established him as a new age voice to be reckon with. In 2021, web film 'Youtumor,' which released in the leading OTT platform of Bangladesh, 'Chorki.' 'Youtumor' remarked his return into the film world with more cutting edge social satire and modern themes.
Adnan Al Rajeev expanded his filmmaking journey further, by turning into a producer for the leading OTT's of BD; 'Chorki,' 'Hoichoi Bangladesh. 'Mohanagar 2,' 'Khachar Vetor Ochin Pakhi,' 'Network er Baire,' 'Tikit,' 'Nikhoj,' 'Punormilone' 'Floor No 7,' 'Adhkhana Valo Chele Adha Mostan' are the most popular and critically louded ones. 'Priyo Maloti' is his first theatrical release as a producer. Adnan Al Rajeev emerged as an International Producer very recently for the short film 'Radikals.' Which has been internationally produced by the countries; Philippine, USA, Bangladesh. 'Radikals' (2024) has been officially selected to compete in the 'Semain De la Critique' category of the prestigious 'Cannes Film Festival.
His 2025 short film Ali is a landmark project in his career. Directed by Rajeev and co-produced by Bangladeshi and Filipino partners, Ali tells the story of a teenage boy in a conservative coastal town who defies norms by entering a singing competition; a narrative that serves as an allegory for identity and self-expression.
Ali had its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival in 2025, becoming the first Bangladeshi film officially selected in the Short Film Competition and earning a Special Mention from the jury, an historic achievement for Bangladeshi cinema. Since Cannes, Ali has continued its international festival run, receiving further recognition and selections at renowned festivals.
