Biography

Born in 1968 in Warsaw, he spent 15 years in Switzerland, where he played guitar and bass in rock bands. He attended pantomime and acting schools in Zurich, as well as language schools in France and Australia. In 1996, he graduated from the film directing department at the Lodz Film School (PWSFTViT) under the mentorship of Krzysztof Kieslowski. He has received numerous awards at international film festivals, including at the 61st Venice Film Festival in 2004 for his Swiss-Belgian debut feature "Tout un hiver sans feu" (All Winter Without Fire), which was also Switzerland's submission for the 2005 Oscars. His second feature film, "Courage" (Wymyk), produced in Poland in 2011, won several top prizes at festivals such as Vilnius, Gdynia, and Warsaw. He directed and co-created the multi-award-winning TV series "Londynczycy" (The Londoners) in 2008/9, the acclaimed crime series "Paradoks" in 2012, and "The Crime" (Zbrodnia) in 2014, the first AXN (Sony Pictures) TV production in Central Europe. In 2015, he directed the Swiss TV feature "Le temps d'Anna" (Anna's Time), which was successfully broadcast on TSR and ARTE. The following year, he directed the Swiss-Austrian-Polish feature film "Animals" (Tiere), which premiered at the Berlinale in February 2017. He is a member of both the Polish and Swiss Film Academies.
