Biography
Richard Meek (born 15 June 1982) is a British actor specializing in musical theatre.
Hailing from King's Lynn, Norfolk, Richard developed a passion for drama early on by participating in numerous amateur productions at his local theatre. At 16, he left home to study Drama at the College of West Anglia, where five years later he completed GCSEs, A Levels, and an HND in Dance, Drama, and Singing. He then relocated to London to attend the London School of Musical Theatre, graduating with distinction after one year. Following graduation, he portrayed the Mikado in the 2004 Christmas production of The Hot Mikado at Upstairs at the Gatehouse, a London Fringe show that earned rave reviews and was named Time Out Critics' Choice.
In early 2005, Richard pursued modelling work before returning to theatre in September as the lead vocalist on the UK tour of Give My Regards to Broadway. After the tour concluded in November, he immediately commenced rehearsals for Sleeping Beauty at the Lichfield Garrick—a pantomime featuring original songs and a West End cast—where he played Prince Claude. That Christmas, he also performed live on BBC Radio West Midlands at Birmingham Symphony Hall.
Throughout 2006, Richard was engaged with the tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Shortly after the pantomime, he secured the role of Judah and was featured as the One More Angel in Heaven soloist, the gospel soloist in Go Go Go Joseph, and the Apache dancer in Those Canaan Days. After six months, the director invited him to audition for the alternate Joseph role, which he won. Following a single performance, he was asked to lead the show for three weeks during the absence of the principal, Ian "H" Watkins, receiving excellent reviews at tour stops in Skegness, Dundee, and Wimbledon. He alternated between playing Joseph three times weekly and Judah for the remaining shows, eventually assuming the principal Joseph role on 22 November 2006, concluding his run on 16 December 2006.
On 27 January 2007, Richard joined the UK tour of The Rocky Horror Show in Nottingham as Brad Majors. He remained with the tour until it ended six months later, performing his final show on 14 July in Woking. While he understudied the role of Frank N. Furter, he did not perform in that capacity.
In 2015, he appeared in The Rocky Horror Show Live, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the film's release, playing both Eddie and Eddie’s uncle, Dr. Everett Von Scott. The production ran from 11 to 26 September.
Richard returned to The Rocky Horror Show in 2016, initially portraying Eddie / Dr. Scott, taking over from Paul Cattermole, before switching back to Brad Majors for the remainder of the tour, which concluded on 31 December 2016 in Oxford.
