Biography
Dora Kamau is the Lead Mindfulness Teacher at Headspace and a former psychiatric nurse whose work lives at the intersection of mental health, healing justice, and contemplative practice. She has been practicing meditation for over 15 years and teaching for the last 8, a path that began after navigating her own experiences with anxiety and depression. These early challenges sparked a deep commitment to making mindfulness more accessible, representative, and relevant, especially for those who have historically been excluded from wellness spaces.
With a background in psychology and psychiatric nursing, Dora has supported individuals facing trauma, addiction, and acute mental health crises in both hospital and community settings. Her clinical training continues to inform her trauma-sensitive, culturally responsive approach to teaching mindfulness.
At Headspace, Dora has written and guided meditations, courses, and mindfulness series supporting emotional well-being and everyday mental health. Her work spans a wide range of impactful projects, including Radio Headspace, Dear Headspace, Sunday Scaries, the Hyatt Sleep Series, and the immersive Meta XR experience. She has collaborated with creators such as Yes Theory, The Try Guys, Shan Boodram and Raheem Sterling, voiced the character ‘Dora’ on the children’s mindfulness show Unicorn Island, and contributed to campaigns with Nike, Cotopaxi, National Parks Foundation, and Spotify.
Dora’s work has been featured in Essence, Blavity, The New York Post, The Washington Post, Spotify Newsroom, and showcased in collaborations with Saje Natural Wellness, lululemon, Reebok, MoMA and many more. Her teaching is grounded in the belief that mindfulness is not just a personal practice, but a powerful tool for collective healing, transformation, and liberation.
