Biography
Joel Berti is an American actor, photographer, and acting coach, recognized for his leading roles in the TV series Fashion House and notable movies of the week such as CBS’s The Michael Landon Story and ABC’s Inside the Osmonds. Recently, he has starred in numerous Lifetime movies including The Pom Pom Murders and The Wrong Neighbor, as well as Syfy’s Arctic Apocalypse and Triassic World.
Born on December 17, 1971, in Avon, Connecticut, Joel performed in several school musicals during his childhood, including A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, The Music Man, and No, No, Nanette. The excitement of hearing the audience’s laughter fueled his passion for performing.
After spending a year at Emerson College in Boston, Joel moved to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. Within his first year, he landed his first TV role in the NBC movie of the week Search and Rescue, starring Robert Conrad. He soon secured guest appearances on shows like Friends, Touched by an Angel, and Days of Our Lives. In the mid to late ’90s, Joel wrote and performed with the Acme Sketch Comedy Theatre for four years, earning praise for his sharp wit and humor. Some of his notable stage roles include Daniel Kaffee in A Few Good Men, Bernard in the comedic farce Boeing Boeing, and the lead in Is There Sex After Marriage?, which ran for a year at the Two Roads Theatre.
In 2007, after filming Fashion House in San Diego, California, Joel chose to remain in the town to explore other creative pursuits such as writing and photography. He also became passionate about surfing, painting, and motorcycling.
In 2016, Joel served as Lady Gaga’s personal acting coach for her debut role on American Horror Story: Hotel, a performance that earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV miniseries. He also coached her for her acclaimed role in A Star is Born.
Joel currently lives in Studio City, California, where he continues to develop his acting career, coaches actors, and works on writing scripts infused with his distinct voice, perspective, and humor.
