Biography
With a Burt Reynolds-style relaxed grin, charm, and confidence, handsome soap actor Josh Taylor first caught attention while bartending near Burbank Studios, where Days of Our Lives (1965) was casting. He landed the role of working-class bartender "Chris Kositchek," captivating female fans from 1977 to 1981, and returned to the character from 1982 for another five years.
Born Tommy Tim Taylor in Princeton, Illinois, he moved with his family to nearby Chillicothe at age two. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College and, despite his down-to-earth image, also earned a Juris Doctor degree in law. After daytime success in the mid-1980s, Josh transitioned to prime-time TV with the sitcom The Hogan Family (1986), playing "Michael Hogan," husband to lead Valerie Harper. In 1988, conflicts between Harper and the network led to her unexpected departure. Rather than cancel the show, Sandy Duncan joined as Valerie’s sister and housekeeper, and the series was renamed The Hogan Family (1988), continuing for three more seasons.
Short stints in TV movies and guest roles on shows like Murder, She Wrote (1984) and Matlock (1986), plus a recurring role as Luke Perry’s troubled father on Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990), did not sustain a consistent presence. Josh returned to daytime soaps in the mid-1990s with brief appearances on The Young and the Restless (1973) and Guiding Light (1952). In 1997, he rejoined NBC’s Days of Our Lives as "Roman Brady," remaining until 2004 when his character was killed off in a cost-cutting storyline. It was later revealed that Roman survived. Josh continues to portray the character, involved in a gripping love triangle with stars Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn. Divorced from action film star Sandahl Bergman of Red Sonja (1985), Josh remarried and now lives with his wife Lisa in Burbank. He has a daughter, Tristen, from his first marriage.
