Biography
Krista Sutton, a Dora Award nominee and co-star of the Genie-nominated film The Dogwalker, brings years of professional acting experience from Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles.
Her most recent role is Paula in Amazon Prime's The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh.
BIO: Sutton gained significant industry recognition with a pivotal scene in the acclaimed film American Psycho. Dubbed the "It Girl" at Sundance, her performance opposite Christian Bale attracted international attention. She was again in the spotlight with the screening of Kirby Dick's popular documentary This Film is Not Yet Rated.
Known widely for her comedic commercials for Special K alongside Cindy Crawford, Sutton has taken on a diverse array of supporting and leading roles. She is beloved for her portrayal of Liz Irwin-Gallo in the nightly improv soap opera Train 48, which aired 340 episodes on Canada's Global TV. Sutton has also appeared in numerous television roles, including as the quirky sitcom wife on Comedy Central's Punched Up playing herself. Her past credits include Lorna Luft in the ABC mini-series Me and My Shadows, Shauna Bellman on The Associates, roles on Ken Finkleman's The Newsroom, and guest appearances on The Neighbors (with Jami Gertz), Missing (with Justin Louis), Kevin Hill (opposite Taye Diggs), This is Wonderland, and The West Wing (with Jimmy Smits).
Her film work features roles alongside Richard Dreyfuss and Judy Davis in Coast to Coast, as well as appearances in Welcome to Mooseport, Stir of Echoes II (with Rob Lowe), Jack and Jill vs. the World (with Freddie Prinze Jr.), Doomstown, 30 Nights, and the acclaimed short film The Dogwalker, which was showcased at the Toronto International, Montreal World, and Palm Springs Film Festivals. The Dogwalker won several awards and earned a Genie Award nomination for Best Short Film. Sutton also co-starred in Fine Living's popular comedic travel series Suite and Simple.
On stage, Sutton starred in Brock Simpson's This Could Be Love at Toronto's Artword Theatre, marking a triumphant Dora-nominated comeback with rave reviews: "Sutton's goofy glamour lights up the small stage." (Kate Taylor, Globe and Mail) and "Sutton can out sing, out act, out pratfall Rene Zellweger in her sleep. Her performance is musical theatre gold!" (Eye Weekly).
She reprised this role at the prestigious New York Musical Festival, where critics likened her to Tony Award winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone). Sutton also served as co-producer.
Theatre is where Sutton began her career. A graduate and Drama Prefect of Toronto's Havergal College, she continued her studies at the University of Toronto's theatre program. After graduating, she toured Europe with the Berliner Ensemble's production of The House of Bernarda Alba. Back in Canada, she performed in Macbeth directed by Robert Lepage.
Additional stage credits include Mary Magdalene in the acclaimed revival of Godspell at the Bathurst Street Theatre and Thaisa in Pericles (Festival of Classics). Sutton also participated in a yearlong run of The Vagina Monologues, sharing the stage with Sheila MacCarthy, Dana Reeve, Elvira Kurt, Jann Arden, Carole Pope, Jeanne Beker, and Erin Brockovich.
In New York, Sutton secured roles Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons, Circle Rep, La MaMa ETC, and The Vital Theatre Company.
Fluent in American Sign Language, Sutton was active in the Deaf Theatre community in New York and portrayed Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream performed in ASL.
Off-stage, she studied with renowned Broadway performer David Shiner (Cirque Du Soleil, Fool Moon) and has extensive training in Commedia dell'Arte, Improv, and Clowning, which she has taught in Toronto, inner-city New York schools, and Gotham City Improv, NYC.
Sutton is also an accomplished pen and ink artist and illustrator.
