Infinity" by Philip Glass, featuring Tara Hugo, is a theatrical work comprising soliloquies and songs, performed at La Mama Theatre in New York in March 2025, in collaboration with producer and librettist Arturo Bejar. Its EU premiere took place in 2023 at the Coronet Theatre in London, starring Stephen Higgins, Lavinia Mejier, and the United Strings of Europe. In 2024, Tara portrayed Queen Margaret in Richard III at the Ovo Festival in St Albans, UK.
In film, Tara appeared in the 2022 independent film "Cotton Something," portraying an Oxycontin addict. That same year, her theatre piece "Who Goes There," directed by Peter Francis James, won Best One Woman Show in New York. Her previous screen credits include a featured role on the BBC series Silent Witness and the role of the Kentucky Barmaid in the feature film Kingsmen 2: The Golden Circle.
Tara Hugo’s ongoing collaboration with composer Philip Glass includes performances at his Days and Nights Festival in California, Book of Longing (Leonard Cohen), The Whistleblower (Jerry Quickly/Philip Glass - New York and Amsterdam), vocal work for The Crucible (Broadway), The Bacchae directed by JoAnne Akalaitis (New York Shakespeare Festival), and the album Tara Hugo Sings Philip Glass. This album contains 12 songs, four with lyrics by Hugo, and was executive produced by Philip Glass for his label Orange Mountain Music, produced by Kurt Munkacsi and arranged by Trevor Gureckis. It is available on Apple Music, iTunes, and Philip Glass’s website. Live performances of the album have included London’s RADA Festival; Bristol St George’s Glassfest with Michael Riesman; Glass’s Days and Nights Festival; and Philip Glass and Friends concerts in Brooklyn and at the Garrison Institute, NY. Tara also participated as Mezzo-Soprano in Monsters of Grace, conducted by Michael Riesman, at the Carolina Performing Arts Festival, alongside a performance by Laurie Anderson.
Originally from Texas, Tara graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and has an extensive career as a leading actress in both the US and UK. Notable London roles include Jenny in The Threepenny Opera (Laurence Olivier Award nomination) at the Donmar Warehouse; Madame Raquin in the acclaimed musical adaptation of Therese Raquin; featured artist at the Kurt Weill Centenary in Batignano, Italy; and a solo cabaret evening directed by the late Alan Rickman. In regional American theatre, she has appeared at the Guthrie Theatre, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Hartford Stage Company, and the Denver Center, performing classical and contemporary works by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Chekhov, Shaw, Anouilh, and others. Her Broadway debut was as a witch and understudy to Sigourney Weaver in Macbeth, directed by Nicol Williamson. She has also worked with directors including Phyllida Lloyd, Imelda Staunton, and Terry Johnson.
Her film credits include Kingsmen 2 (2017) directed by Matthew Vaughn; Richard Attenborough’s In Love and War; Paul Greengrass’ United 93; The Broken; A Second Wind; Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy; Big Women; 7 Wonders of the World - Panama; as well as television roles in Midsomer Murders, Murder City; and James Keach’s Submerged.
