Biography
Katina Medina Mora is a Mexican-American director in theatre, television, and film, based in New York City.
This past summer, she directed the new Jeremy O. Harris play, Spirit of the People, at The Williamstown Theatre Festival. Her international TV career began with Netflix's Emily in Paris, where she directed episodes across several seasons. She also directed episodes of Firefly Lane and Selena: The Series, and serves as one of the lead directors on XO Kitty. Medina Mora directed the Season 2 finale of Swagger (Apple TV+), and her latest work appears in the newest season of The Summer I Turned Pretty (Amazon). Her debut feature film, LuTo, premiered at international festivals and streamed worldwide on Netflix. Her second film, Sabrás qué hacer conmigo, supported by Imcine, was released by Cinépolis and earned nominations for Best Director and Best Picture at the Diosas de Plata awards. Her third feature, Latido, starring Oscar-nominated Marina de Tavira, debuted at the Morelia and Mill Valley Film Festivals and was acquired by Amazon. She currently has two U.S. feature projects in development: Clara Boone, a female-led western ghost story written by Jenna Ciralli, and Will, a father-son drama starring Ricardo Chavira. In Mexico, she received the prestigious Efiteatro Fund for her production of Blackbird by David Harrower, which won Best Play at the Metro Awards and was nominated for Best Direction and Best Actor. The production had acclaimed runs in 2019 and 2022, gaining additional honors including Best Actress (Press Theatre Prizes) and Best Play (Cartelera de Teatro). In New York, she directed Poison by Lot Vekemans at Unit J in Bushwick, as well as new works by Erin Germaine Mahoney at Theatre 555 and The Chain Theatre Festival. Medina Mora is a member of The Actors Studio Directors Unit and a writer member of The Actors Gym, led by Academy Award-winner Bobby Moresco.
