Biography
Linda Cullberg Lampenius, widely recognized by her maiden name Linda Lampenius and her international stage name Linda Brava, (born 26 February 1970) is a Finnish classical concert violinist. Celebrated as one of the most versatile and skilled musicians of her generation, Brava has also explored genres such as pop, rock, folk, techno, film, jazz, and world music.
Born into a Swedish-speaking Finnish family deeply rooted in music, Brava's father, Börje Lampenius (1921–2016), was a theatre director, actor, singer, and composer of musicals and operettas. Her mother, Ulla Eklund, is a former actress and singer, both having worked at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki.
Brava began violin studies at age five with Géza Szilvay, the creator of the Colourstrings method, after attending a musical kindergarten. Her professional journey started early as a member and soloist of the Helsinki Strings at age seven, performing alongside musicians two to three times her age.
In 1970, Brava appeared in the Finnish film classic "Akseli ja Elina," where her mother played the lead and she portrayed her daughter-in-arms. Throughout her childhood, Brava took on small roles in various Swedish Theatre productions and toured Sweden and Norway with the company. Since the 1990s, she has appeared in Finnish and Swedish TV series including "Kadonnut näky," "Uuno Turhapuro," and "Cleo." She also starred in the Finnish comedy series "Kultajukka & kumppanit" on YLE, where she humorously parodied her public image in Finland as "Media Linda," a ditzy blonde violinist known for her provocative outfits.
While residing in Los Angeles, Brava was offered roles in "Fame L.A.," "Melrose Place," and "Baywatch," and was invited to host a television talk show as a musical guest host. She declined long-term contracts but accepted guest appearances in "Fame L.A." as Ilsa Lundqvist, a Swedish violinist who performs at an art school's Christmas party and attracts a student's affection, and in "Baywatch" as Ariana, a European violinist in distress. Music from Brava's pop album, including "Violator" and "Aquamarine," was featured in both shows.
