Biography

Brett Michael Innes, born in Johannesburg, South Africa, is a bestselling author and SAFTA-winning filmmaker. As the producer of The Heart is a Muscle, South Africa's entry for the 98th Academy Awards, he has showcased features and shorts that premiered in competition at prestigious festivals such as Berlinale, Sundance, IFFR, Tallinn Black Nights, Atlanta, IFFK, Sydney, and Hollyshorts.

His films Sink and Fiela se Kind each won SAFTA awards for Best Film and Best Screenplay in their respective years. Additionally, commercial projects like Khaki Fever have set streaming records for local films. His television directing credits include the Series Mania 2024-selected series Catch Me a Killer and the second season of Netflix's 'Global Top 10' Original, Unseen.
