Biography
Kya Stewart is a multi award-winning actor who has appeared in several film and television roles. She most recently finished filming the feature film Her Last Laugh, by director Joy Hopwood, in which she plays the lead role of Taylor alongside Ana Thu Nuguyen (Mortal Kombat 2), and Peter Thurnwald (XO Kitty). The highly anticipated film will have an international cinema release in September 2026.
She also starred in two films selected for Tropfest; Project Hourglass alongside Bob Morley (The 100), an official selection directed by Ben Mathews, and One More For Safety, directed by Kacey Baker as part of the Wildcard Competition. Both films premiered on February 22, marking a rare milestone with Stewart appearing in two films in the same festival lineup. The achievement is made even more significant with this year's judging panel featuring global industry figures including Margot Robbie, Sarah Snook and award-winning director James Cameron.
She is also known for her role in the Stan series Totally Completely Fine, as well as her performances in Ruby's Choice, directed by Michael Budd, Christmess, from director Heath Davis, and Risen, directed by Eddie Arya. All three films are currently streaming across a number of platforms globally.
Kya was recently crowned the global champion in the World Monologue Games, which is considered to be 'the Olympics for actors'. The judging panel included renowned actors, directors and Emmy award-winning casting directors. The International showcase gathered performers from over 100 countries worldwide.
For her role as Jade, in The One, Kya received international recognition for her work with many awards, including 'Best Actress' at the European International Film Festival, 'Best Actress of the season' at the Monkey Bread Tree Festival, and 'Best Actress' at the YLMAM Film Festival in Canada. This was an incredible achievement for her first film. Monkey Bread Tree Festival described her performance as, "bold, memorable and elegant. Her performance as a woman done wrong by a controlling boyfriend is elevated, somewhat memorable of Kate Jarvis in Fish Tank."
Currently, in pre-production for her debut short film, Cognitive, Kya plays the lead role of Abbie in the fantasy-realism drama, which is set to be released in 2027. The film is being made to raise awareness on trauma and mental health. "Cognitive explores the idea of reshaping memories from your past in order to change your future".
Kya is driven by a commitment to telling stories that reveal truth, confront silence, and amplify the voices of those that are too often overlooked.
