Biography
Eva du Preez is an award-winning South African director, editor, and producer who has built a strong reputation in film and television since beginning her career in 2012. She first gained recognition as an editor on the TV series Die Boland Moorde, earning a SAFTA nomination early in her career. She went on to produce the multi-award-winning short film Toevlug (Dir. Christiaan Olwagen-2013), marking her debut as a producer and establishing her as a versatile creative across multiple disciplines. Over the years, she has contributed to numerous popular Afrikaans television series, including Die Boekklub, Spinners, Fraksie, Tuiskoms, Trompoppie, and Niggies, working across editing, script supervision, and post-production.
du Preez transitioned into feature films in 2015 and quickly rose to prominence as an editor. Her work on Kanarie earned her the Best Editing award at the kykNET Silwerskermfees in 2018, followed by another Best Editing win in 2019 for Poppie Nongena and again in 2024 for Die Tragiese Saak van Pamina Vermaak. Her list of achievements also includes multiple SAFTA wins, including awards for Nêrens, Noord-Kaap and the feature film Runs in the Family, as well as her most recent SAFTA win for Death of a Whistleblower.
These wins solidify her reputation as one of South Africa's leading editors. ln addition to her editing success, she has expanded into directing, co-directing the Showmax series Wyfie, which received international recognition and a SAFTA nomination for directing, along with nominations at major events including the Global Production Awards and the Seoul Interational Drama Awards. She also directed two episodes of Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated series Koek. Eva just finished her first series as sole director, Die Oord, written by Christiaan Olwagen and produced by Wolfight, marking an exciting evolution into a fully-fledged directorial voice.
