Biography
Laila Garin is a French-Brazilian actress and singer, born in Salvador, Bahia, and currently residing in Rio de Janeiro. She gained recognition for her roles in the Netflix series "3%" (2018-2020), "Sob Pressão" (2017) ("Under Pressure"), and "Rock Story" (2016-2017). In 2021, she was cast in the Amazon Prime Video and Conspiração production "Dom." Laila is also set to appear in the film "Deserto Particular" ("Private Desert") directed by Aly Muritiba, and the musical film "Meu Álbum de Amores" ("My Love Album") by Rafael Gomes, featuring songs by Odair José and Arnaldo Antunes.
In Brazil, she became well-known to audiences and critics through the musical about singer Elis Regina. For this role and her performance in another musical adapted from Chico Buarque’s classic "Gota D'água a Seco" ("Drop of Dry Water"), she received major acting awards and performed on the country’s most prestigious stages. At TV Globo, she has appeared in "Sob Pressão," created by Jorge Furtado, portrayed singer Clara Nunes in "Chacrinha, o Velho Guerreiro" ("Chacrinha, The Old Warrior"), and played Edith Piaf in the series "Hebe." She has also appeared in soap operas such as "Malhação" ("Workout"), "Rock Story," "Babilônia," "A Grande Família" ("The Large Family"), "Louco Por Elas" ("Crazy About Them"), and "Força Tarefa" ("Task Force").
As a singer, Laila has participated in TV Globo’s annual charity telethon "Criança Esperança" ("Children's Hope") and the music program "Som Brasil" ("Brazil Sound"). She also contributed vocals to the soundtrack of the series "Amorteamo" ("Amour, I Love You"). Her film credits include "Divaldo, o Mensageiro da Paz" ("Divaldo, the Messenger of Peace") directed by Clovis Mello, "Macabro" ("Macabre") by Marcos Prado, and "Chacrinha, o Velho Guerreiro" by Andrucha Waddington. For her performance in the short film "Um Outro Ensaio" ("Another Essay," 2010) by Natara Ney, she won best actress awards at the Blumenau and Triunfo film festivals.
As a singer, she featured in the documentary about Chico Buarque, "Chico - Um Artista Brasileiro" ("Chico - A Brazilian Artist"), and in the documentary about Ferreira Gullar, "A Vida Existe Porque a Vida Não Basta" ("Life Exists Because Life Is Not Enough"). Additionally, she stars in the musical "A Hora da Estrela ou O Canto de Macabéa" (2020/2021) ("The Hour of the Star or Macabea's Song"), based on Clarice Lispector’s text, adapted with original music by Chico César.
