Biography

Brandon Tartikoff graduated from Yale University and began his career at WLS-TV in Chicago. In the mid-1970s, he moved to ABC in New York before joining NBC in 1977 as a programming executive hired by Dick Ebersol. In 1980, Tartikoff succeeded Fred Silverman as head of programming. He faced a second recurrence of Hodgkin's disease in 1982, having first been diagnosed and recovered from it in the 1970s. During his leadership at NBC, Tartikoff was responsible for numerous programming successes. By 1985, he had restored NBC to the number one spot. He left NBC in 1991 to become chairman of Paramount Pictures but departed eighteen months later to care for his daughter, who was injured in a 1991 car accident. In 1995, he established his own production company. Tartikoff died in 1997 due to a third recurrence of Hodgkin's disease.
