Biography
Andy Zuno has established himself as one of the most sought-after Latin actors of his generation, appearing as a series regular in over 100 episodes for Televisa and Telemundo. His breakout role as Hugo in the hit series "Al Diablo con los Guapos" (Down with the Beautiful) earned him the Best Supporting Actor Award. The show’s U.S. ratings rank among the highest for Spanish-language TV, competing with programs like CSI and American Idol. Andy later starred in "Pasión," "Decisiones Extremas," the mini-series "Mujer Casos de la Vida," and "Amar de Nuevo."
In addition to his acting career, Andy is a highly acclaimed musical theater performer. He was honored by the National Theatre Press Association as Best Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Emmanuel Mijares. He led the original cast of the hit "Mentiras, el Musical" (Lies, the Musical), the longest-running comedy in Mexican musical theater history. Andy also recorded the original soundtrack for the musical, which has sold over 30,000 copies, becoming Mexico’s highest-grossing theater soundtrack to date.
Andy began his film career in 2004 with a supporting role alongside renowned Mexican actor Rogelio Guerra in "Emisario del Odio" (Messenger of Hate). That same year, he made his theatrical debut in Edward Albee's "The Play About the Baby," directed by Victor Weinstock. His success continued with a role in "Te Odio" (I Hate You), written by esteemed playwright Ximena Escalante and directed by Mauricio García Lozano. Together, they collaborated on the award-winning plays "La Luna 100 Watts" and "El Códex Romanoff."
Representing Mexico at the World Music Theater Festival in Holland, Belgium, and Italy, Andy starred in "Unos Cuantos Piquetitos" (A Few Small Nips), a musical about the legendary artist Frida Kahlo. The production opened the festival and sold out every night.
Andy’s success in film and theater led to his television debut in 2007 with the series "Pasión," produced by Carla Estrada, Mexico’s most renowned telenovela producer. "Pasión" aired in over 200 countries. That same year, he starred in the miniseries "Loteria" alongside legendary Mexican actors Isela Vega, Sergio Corona, and Evita Muñoz "Chachita." His major breakthrough came with the telenovela "Al Diablo con Los Guapos," where he played lead role Hugo Arango. The show broke all records in U.S. Spanish-language TV, competing with national hits like CSI, America’s Next Top Model, and American Idol, and became one of the most televised shows in Univision’s history. For his performance, Andy received the Best Supporting Actor of the Year Award from Fama in Miami, Florida.
In 2008, Andy led three episodes of the Telemundo series "Decisiones Extremas" (Extreme Decisions), including its premiere episode aired in Puerto Rico, the U.S., and Mexico.
From February 2009 to February 2010, Andy was part of the original cast of the musical comedy "Mentiras" (Lies, the Musical), starring as the lead character Emmanuel Mijares. This musical comedy became a phenomenon in Mexican musical theater history, becoming the longest-running Mexican musical ever. In August 2009, the original soundtrack CD was released and ranked among the top ten best-selling Spanish albums, a first for a theater soundtrack in Mexico. It held the number one spot for soundtrack sales and ranked third among Spanish-language albums for over thirteen weeks, ultimately earning a gold record for sales.
On March 2, 2010, Andy received the APT Award, Mexico’s equivalent of the Tonys, for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his work in "Mentiras."
In June 2010, Andy released his first solo pop single, "Suma de Dos," available as a free download on www.andyzuno.com. This single was part of his debut album "Andy Zuno Más de una Vida" (More Than One Life), which featured 12 tracks plus two bonus tracks. Most songs were pop hits from the 1980s originally performed by female pop singers or bands.
The show "Más de una Vida" premiered at Amapola Concert Hall in Mexico City, running weekly concerts for several months. The music video for "Suma de Dos" premiered on TeleHit, Latin America's MTV, and was well received by audiences. Andy returned to television in 2011 with his role as Lorenzo in the TV series "Amar de Nuevo" (To Love Again), written by one of the most important telenovela writers, Enrique Torres. This Telemundo Universal production aired in Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico, and other countries.
In July 2011, Andy produced and performed in the "Andy Zuno Más de una Vida Acoustic Session," an unplugged concert of his debut album, in collaboration with Greenline Entertainment and Spit Magazine TV. The show was streamed live through an online digital magazine, attracting a large global audience.
