Biography

Ethel Lina White, born in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales in 1876, was a prominent crime writer in Britain and the United States during the 1930s and 1940s. Her 1936 novel, "The Wheel Spins," served as the basis for Alfred Hitchcock's 1938 film, The Lady Vanishes. She passed away from ovarian cancer in London, England, in 1944. In 2021, a blue plaque was planned for a building on Frogmore Street in Abergavenny to commemorate her birthplace.
