Biography
Andrés Vicente Gómez (born 16 September 1943 in Madrid) is a Spanish film producer and head of Lolafilms, credited with producing over 100 films.
Gómez won an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film with "Belle Epoque." Alongside awards from festivals such as Berlin, Venice, Montreal, and San Sebastian, his consistent presence at the Spanish Goya Film Awards has made him the Spanish producer with the most national and international accolades.
He has produced many of Spain's highest-grossing films and collaborated with renowned directors including Fernando Trueba, Pedro Almodóvar, Carlos Saura, Bigas Luna, Vicente Aranda, Álex de la Iglesia, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Pilar Miró, Santiago Segura, Jose Luis García Sánchez, John Malkovich, and Ray Loriga. In recognition of his significant contributions to cinema, the Cannes Film Festival honored Gómez with a special tribute in 1998.
Beginning in the early 1970s, Andrés Vicente Gómez has also served as a film distributor, introducing Spanish audiences to a diverse range of international films. These include classics by Buster Keaton, Charles Chaplin, Jean-Pierre Melville, and Akira Kurosawa, as well as Oscar-winning titles like "The Last Emperor," "Dances With Wolves," "Driving Miss Daisy," and "Henry V." Gómez has distributed works by cult directors such as Bernardo Bertolucci, Robert Bresson, Claude Chabrol, Peter Greenaway, Shohei Imamura, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Alain Resnais, François Truffaut, and Bertrand Tavernier, while also promoting independent filmmakers like Hal Hartley, Neil Jordan, Paul Morrissey, Tim Robbins, and Alan Rudolph.
