Biography
Like many young girls in Brooklyn, Allison began ballet classes at age 5. She remained dedicated, earning a scholarship to the Dan Durrie Dance Center throughout high school. Allison enrolled at UCLA as a dance major and graduated magna cum laude from their theatre department before launching her performing career. She spent several years working as an actress and dancer, specializing in jazz, Broadway, swing, salsa, and partner dances. Notable achievements include serving as assistant dance captain and performing in the national tour of Swing!, dancing with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at The Hollywood Bowl, and co-starring in a film alongside James Franco.
Transitioning to choreography, Allison’s credits include The Who's Tommy (L.A. Drama Critics Circle nomination), Godspell (LA Weekly Award nomination), 1776, the world premiere of Savin' Up for Saturday Night, and assistant choreographer for the Broadway production of Xanadu, which received four Tony nominations including Best Choreography. She later expanded into directing, helming three productions of Mark Brown's adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days, which earned rave reviews and was named an LA Times Critics Choice.
Allison focuses on developing new work and has directed readings of three new musicals selected for the ASCAP/Dreamworks/Universal Theatrical Group Musical Theatre Workshop, moderated by Stephen Schwartz. In 2019, she added Intimacy Coordination and Direction to her expertise. She is one of only 43 intimacy coordinators in the U.S. listed on the SAG/AFTRA IC registry and has trained with top companies in three countries, including participating in Ita O'Brien's first advanced training in London.
Certified in mental health first aid and trained in sexual harassment awareness, conflict resolution, and more, Allison has delivered presentations about intimacy choreography at AFI (seven times), USC's Peter Stark Producing Program, FIDM, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Arts, and others. She enjoys educating groups of all sizes in person or via Zoom on what to expect when working with an intimacy director/coordinator.
