Biography
Ivan Aleksandrovich Vyrypaev (Russian: Ива́н Алекса́ндрович Вырыпа́ев; born August 3, 1974, in Irkutsk) is a Russian playwright, screenwriter, film and theater director, and actor active in both Russia and Poland. He is a prominent figure in the Russian New Drama movement and is best known for his plays "Oxygen" ("Kislorod") and "Delhi Dance," which have received numerous awards in theater and film.
His father, Alexander Nikolayevich Vyrypaev, was a teacher at Irkutsk Pedagogical College No. 1 and was honored with the memorial medal "Patriot of Russia." His mother, Vera Timofeevna Vyrypaeva, who held a higher trade education, passed away tragically. Ivan graduated from the Irkutsk theater school in 1995 and subsequently worked as an actor at the Magadan Theater for one season, followed by two seasons at the Drama and Comedy Theater in Kamchatka. In 1998, he founded the "Space of Play" theater studio in Irkutsk. That same year, he began studying part-time at the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in the "Director of Drama Theater" department. From 1999 to 2001, Vyrypaev taught acting at the Irkutsk Theater School under Vyacheslav Kokorin. In 2005, he established the "Kislorod Movement," an agency for creative projects in cinema, theater, and literature. He served as the artistic director of the "Praktika Theater" starting in 2006 and officially assumed the position of artistic director in April 2013.
Vyrypaev gained recognition across Europe as a playwright, director, and project author. His works and productions based on his plays have been staged in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, England, France, and Canada. His play "Dreams" has been translated into English, French, German, Bulgarian, and Polish; "Valentine's Day" has been translated into German; and "Oxygen" is available in several foreign languages. He has taught at GITIS, the Moscow Art Theater Studio School, and the Warsaw Academy of Theater Arts. He works in Moscow and resides in both Poland and Russia.
