Biography
Roxzane T. Mims is an American actress and director based in Atlanta, Georgia, working across television, film, and stage. Her name is pronounced "Rock-zon," not "Rocks-Ann" a detail she says her mother was adamant about getting right. Mims grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after her family moved there from Detroit. Her mother, Catherine Barrow Williams, was an opera singer who chose to raise her daughters rather than pursue a demanding career that would take her away from them for years, and instead performed constantly in community theater, including productions of Madame Butterfly and A Raisin in the Sun that brought in professionals from New York. Watching her mother perform is what first drew Mims to acting, and she followed the same path through school plays, community theater, and local commercials. She moved to Atlanta and has been active in the local acting community since 1989.A few of her television credits include Greenleaf (as the recurring character Darlene), Being Mary Jane, Dynasty, Doom Patrol, BMF, Will Trent, Sweet Magnolias (as Sondra Whitley), Reasonable Doubt (as Patricia Stewart), and Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist. Her film work includes The Sound of Christmas opposite Ne Yo and Serayah, Mosaic (as Ruth Anderson) a role she's called one of her most challenging because of how far the character's coldness was from her own personality, Duplicity, Rumors Salon, Hubcap, and the lead role in the independent film, Short Term. She's also directed several 48-hour film projects and the short film Five Smooth Stones, used in schools as an anti-bullying teaching tool. Mims attribute's leaning on faith and a strong personal support system that kept her through the leaner years. She's a grandmother (or "Neene," as she prefers) and cites Meryl Streep, Angela Bassett, Viola Davis, and Denzel Washington as being among some of the actors she'd most like to work with.
