Amirah Vann (pronounced van, not vawn)
Amirah Vann is an Afro-Latina actress from Far Rockaway, NY, best known for her role as Tegan Price on ABC's How To Get Away With Murder. She has recently been cast as a series regular on Fox's new medical drama DOC, portraying neuropsychiatrist Dr. Gina Walker.
Born to a Puerto Rican mother and an African-American father, Amirah grew up bilingual in English and Spanish. Raised in New York, she developed a passion for the arts and earned a BFA in Acting from Fordham University, followed by an MFA from NYU Tisch's graduate acting program.
She most recently starred as Diahann Carroll in Shirley and appeared in Tyler Perry's A Jazzman's Blues, where her soulful singing and nuanced portrayal of Hattie Mae received critical acclaim from The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, TIME, and others. Amirah is also recognized for her roles in The Changeling, Underground, Queen Sugar, Unsolved, Star Trek: Picard, Tracers, Miss Virginia, and as the voice of Sevika in Netflix's Emmy-winning animated series Arcane, among many other projects.
Her stage work includes numerous regional theater productions featuring plays by Christopher Durang, Katori Hall, Dominique Morisseau, Shakespeare, and more.
Her honors include a NAACP Image Award nomination, the Princess Grace Award in Acting, Best Actor from UJAMAA Black Theater, and The ARTS Musical Theater Award.
