Biography
David Viet Lam, also known as David Lam, is an Asian Australian actor primarily associated with the Crime, Action, and Drama genres, often incorporating elements of Thriller, Horror, and Comedy.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, David was raised in Fitzroy, Victoria, in housing commission flats by his Vietnamese Chinese immigrant parents. After his parents' early divorce, his mother remarried. Growing up in Fitzroy exposed David to some challenging experiences, but he found solace in dance and basketball.
David attended St Joseph's North Fitzroy, where he was first introduced to drama under the guidance of Patrick Watt. He focused on theatre and developed an interest in mime and movement, which complemented his dance background. Dance, mime, and movement form the foundation of his craft, while life experiences have deepened his understanding of emotions and human behavior.
Known for his unconventional acting approach, David draws heavily on personal experience, curiosity, trial and error, and self-paced learning. Influential mentors include Greg Apps and Robyn Gibbes (The Audition Technique/Greg Apps Casting), Peter Kalos (Melbourne Actor's Lab), Cameron Douglas (Digger Tactical), Magnus Walker, Jon Jandai, and his first drama teacher, Patrick Watt.
David also has a keen interest in firearms and has trained with Digger Tactical under head instructor Cameron Douglas. His preferred weapons for close-quarters combat include the Glock 17, MP5, and Kriss Vector SMG.
In his free time, David enjoys outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, and camping, or relaxing at home.
