Biography

Jill was a leading television soap star, portraying nurse Carole Young in ITV's Emergency Ward 10 from 1957 to 1964. She began the role at nineteen and was twenty-six when she was abruptly removed from the cast. Her career quickly declined, with only occasional stage roles, and a decade later she was working in the service department of a freezer company handling customer complaints. Four days after leaving Ward 10, she married her first husband, John Alderton, who had a minor role as a doctor; they divorced after five years. She struggled to find work as producers only saw her as the nurse character. Her only notable role afterward was briefly playing a hostess in the pub-themed show Stars and Garters. Jill survived acute peritonitis and a near-fatal tumor, and in 1971 married theatre producer Brian Wolfe. She passed away from cancer on December 5, 1991, at the age of 54.
