Biography

Sam Otto was born on June 13, 1992, in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. He trained at Drama Centre London. Otto appeared as "Young Sathnam's Father" in The Boy with the Topknot, and later played Josef in the 2018 film The Flood. He is best known for his role as "Jalal" in Peter Kosminsky's Channel 4 series The State, which follows young recruits to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, exploring their paths toward either embracing the caliphate or succumbing to disillusionment and despair. Otto subsequently starred as John "Oz" Osweiller, a young brakeman and law enforcement figure on the train, in TNT's 2020 thriller series Snowpiercer.
