Biography
Eduardo, born on January 6, 1942, in Manila, is the son of American Mary Pickett and Antonio Gutierrez. He attended San Beda College and completed his high school education at San Sebastian College before studying Commerce at Letran College. He married actress Annabelle Rama, and they have six children, including actress Ruffa Gutierrez, who was the 1st Runner-Up in Miss World during the 1990s; twins Richard and Raymond Gutierrez, both child performers; as well as Elvis Gutierrez, Rocky Gutierrez, and Ritchie Paul Gutierrez, an emerging rap artist. Eddie also has a son, Tonton Gutierrez, with actress Liza Lorena, and Ramon Christopher with singer-actress Pilita Corrales.
Eddie began his acting career with a minor role in "Prinsesang Gusgusin" (1958), was introduced in "Handsome" (1959), and starred in films such as "Kaming Makasalanan" (1960), "Eddie Longlegs" (1964), "Portrait of My Love" (1965), and "Pogi" (1967). He was under contract with Sampaguita Pictures for eight years. His filmography also includes "Hiram na Kamay" (1962), "June Bride" (1962), "Pitong Puso" (1962), "Sabina" (1963), "Bird of Paradise" (1963), "Eddie Loves Susie" (1964), "Isinulat sa Dugo" (1965), "I'll Dream of You" (1966), and "All Over the World" (1967).
After spending several years in the United States, he returned to the Philippines with his family and continued acting, appearing in films such as "Katawang Lupa" (1975), "Ursula" (1976), "Beerhouse" (1977), "Bontoc" (1977), "Balatkayo" (1978), "Bomba Star" (1978), "Sari-saring Ibong Kulasisi" (1978), "Lagi na Lamang Ba Akong Babae?" (1978), and "Lumakad Ka, Gabi" (1979). In 1991, Eddie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor by the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) for "Uubusin Ko ang Lahi Mo." He won the FAP Best Actor award and the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts & Sciences (FAMAS) Best Supporting Actor award for "Only You" (1992). In 2004 and 2006, he appeared in the TV fantasy series "Mulawin" and "Majika," portraying an elder with magical powers in both.
