Biography
Dan McDermott serves as President of Original Programming and Co-President of AMC Studios, overseeing content creation across AMC Networks Entertainment Group—including AMC, BBC America, IFC, and SundanceTV—as well as AMC Studios. He is based in Los Angeles.
A versatile media executive, McDermott is widely recognized for his accomplishments in content creation, development, and distribution, alongside expert management of complex creative partnerships and network operations. His extensive experience at leading media companies such as Lionsgate, BBC Studios, DreamWorks, and Fox, coupled with strong ties to the creative community, establish him as both a respected media leader and a prolific content creator.
Prior to joining AMC Networks, McDermott led the Lionsgate and BBC Studios scripted TV partnership, managing dealmaking, sales, development, production, and distribution. He was also a successful producer, writer, and partner at Di Bonaventura Pictures Television, with credits including The Real O'Neals and Jupiter's Legacy. For nearly ten years, he served as DreamWorks' first president of television, overseeing series like Spin City, Freaks and Geeks, and the award-winning miniseries Band of Brothers. Additionally, McDermott held multiple roles at Fox Broadcasting Network, where he developed and managed shows such as In Living Color, Melrose Place, The X-Files, The Simpsons, Married... with Children, Martin, Party of Five, Mad TV, and Beverly Hills, 90210. He also supervised The Emmys, The Billboard Awards, and numerous other specials on the network.
McDermott earned a B.A. in film and television from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and furthered his studies as a screenwriting fellow at the American Film Institute.
