Biography
Blake Robbins is an acclaimed actor, writer, and director. In 2012, after years of acting, he moved behind the camera to write, direct, produce, and star in his feature film debut, The Sublime and Beautiful, which premiered at the 20th Slamdance Film Festival in 2014. The film enjoyed a successful festival run, earning 8 Grand Jury Awards, 7 nominations, and a limited theatrical release through Candy Factory Films.
In 2015, Robbins was invited by writers Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison (Rudderless, directed by William H. Macy) to direct their screenplay adaptation of Nancy Pickard's New York Times bestselling novel, The Scent of Rain & Lightning. Featuring Maika Monroe, Maggie Grace, Will Patton, Bonnie Bedelia, Mark Webber, Justin Chatwin, and Logan Miller, the film debuted as the opening night feature at the 2017 Atlanta Film Festival and won 8 Grand Jury Awards on the festival circuit. It was released in North America in early 2018 by SP Releasing/Echo Bridge.
As an actor, Robbins has performed both On and Off-Broadway. Television audiences recognize him for roles such as Dave Brass on HBO's groundbreaking series OZ, Tom Haplert on NBC's The Office, Mitch Glender on Sons of Anarchy, and Agent McGuinness on the cult favorite Firefly (created by Joss Whedon). His film credits include Wind River (Taylor Sheridan), Rubber (Quentin Dupieux), Martyrs (the Goetz Brothers), and The Ugly Truth opposite Gerard Butler. For his self-directed role in The Sublime and Beautiful, he received the Leonardo da Vinci Golden Horse Award at the Milan International Film Festival and the Grand Jury Award for Best Actor at the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Robbins co-authored Acting Qs: Conversations with Working Actors alongside casting director and author Bonnie Gillespie.
He lives in the Los Angeles area with his wife Karen, daughters Molly and Emma, and son Cooper.
