Biography
Bryan Keith Holland, one of rock history's greatest punk vocalists, was born in Orange County, California, two days before the end of 1965. His father worked as a hospital administrator, and his mother was a school teacher. He is the third of four siblings. Holland has mentioned early influences including Aerosmith, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, KISS, Bob Marley, Queen, The Rolling Stones, UFO (featuring Michael Schenker), and Van Halen.
In high school, he discovered punk music through bands like the Adolescents, Agent Orange, Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, The Clash, Descendents, Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Social Distortion, T.S.O.L., and The Vandals. Inspired, he decided to start a band. In 1984, he formed "Manic Subsidal" with bandmate Greg K., later renaming the group "The Offspring" in 1985 after recruiting Noodles as the second guitarist.
After several years on the local scene, the band released their debut album, "The Offspring," in 1989. Initially available only in limited 12" vinyl editions, the album didn't see a CD release until 1995. The Offspring signed with Epitaph Records in 1991, releasing their second album, "Ignition," in 1992. Their breakthrough came with "Smash" in 1994, featuring hit singles like "Come Out and Play" and "Self-Esteem." The band continued their success with albums such as "Ixnay on the Hombre" (1997), "Americana" (1998), "Conspiracy of One" (2000), and "Splinter" (2003). Since then, The Offspring has remained a prominent force in punk rock.
