Biography

Stijn Koomen is a Dutch actor, writer, and director with over 25 years of experience. He made his breakthrough at age 12 in the series "Wat Nou!?" directed by Eddy Terstall and Simone van Dusseldorp. He gained widespread recognition playing Mick in the popular series "I am Willem" (Ik ben Willem) from 2002 to 2009, directed by the acclaimed Mijke de Jong.

Koomen is acclaimed for his nuanced portrayals of complex, introspective characters, notably in the Golden Calf-winning film "Stages" (Tussenstand), where he starred alongside Marcel Musters and Elsie de Brauw. His international reputation grew in 2010 with his lead role in David Verbeek’s "R U There," which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival as the only Dutch feature selected that year.

Shifting to behind the camera, Koomen studied Writing and Directing at Theater Academy De Trap and the Scenario Vakschool. He has written and directed several well-received short films, including "Ein Wunsch nach Weihnacht," which premiered at both the Netherlands Film Festival and the Mammoth Lakes Film Festival in Los Angeles.

Coming from a creative family, Koomen is the grandson of celebrated novelist Har Scheepens, author of 14 novels. Inspired by his artistic heritage, he continues to develop as a versatile, multi-talented filmmaker.
