Biography
Ross is a highly acclaimed actor recognized for his recurring role as Liberty High math teacher Mr. Wood across three seasons of the popular Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.
He has earned three Best Actor awards for his lead performance in the sci-fi short "The Bumbry Encounter," seven Best Supporting Actor awards for the supernatural western short "Ghost in the Gun," and shares a Best Acting Ensemble award for "Ghost in the Gun" alongside "Star Trek: Voyager" star Tim Russ.
After two decades in theater and stand-up comedy, Ross made a surprising transition to film in 2007 when Grateful Dead concert film director Len Dell'Amico spotted him performing in a comedy showcase with the late Robin Williams. This led to a starring role in Dell'Amico's indie feature "Welcome to Dopeland" (2010). Since then, Ross has appeared in 24 feature films, with screenings at major festivals including SXSW, Tribeca, Sundance, Cinequest, and the San Francisco International Film Festival. In Japan, he has guest-starred in multiple episodes of two well-known television series: "Sekai Gyoten News" and "World Hanzai Mystery."
A fourth-generation Humboldt County native, Ross was born and raised in Eureka, California. He comes from a family deeply rooted in media and the performing arts: his mother, Donna Cleveland, was a local television personality and "Romper Room" teacher; his father, Bill Turner, worked as a college radio personality and stage actor; his sister, Heidi Turner, is a SAG and AEA actress; his uncle, Bob Turner, has been a radio DJ, television host, producer, and newscaster; and his grandmother, Mable Turner, was a film organist during the silent film era and a big band pianist.
