Biography
Namakula is an actor, writer, video editor and producer born to a quirky, academic Ugandan Father and a feisty, omnipotent Jamaican Mother. Her unusual and curious persona resulted in a passionate interest in foreign lands, travel, comic books and dark comedy. Her sense of adventure led her to explore sites and cities in numerous countries. Particularly the UK and Spain, where she was booked on projects as an actor and video editor. In addition to a residence in Barcelona, which for many years she considered her second home-- and longed to work with Pedro Almodovar.
Her performance work runs the gamut from theatre, episodics, web series, commercials, voice over, music-- and in a past life, stand up comedy. Her offbeat humor has landed her comedic roles on Conan O'Brien, webisodes with Amber Ruffin and recently a sketch on The Daily Show with Desi Lydic. She’s worked with groundbreaking directors such as: Nzingha Stewart, Charles Stone III, David Shane, and the legendary Joe Pytka. You can see her series work in episodes of NBC's "New Amsterdam", "The Blacklist" and Netflix's "Inventing Anna".
In the world of theatre, she was cast as Understudy in the 2019 Pulitzer Prize winning play,"Fairview" (original cast), by Jackie Sibblies-Drury.
Namakula's had a long standing voice over career and she can be heard on campaigns for Clinique, Smirnoff and notably, as the Voice of REI's "Force of Nature" campaign, winner of the Cannes Bronze Glass Lion (2018).
Since 2021, Namakula's proudly been the Co-Executive Producer / Narrator of a dynamic, eclectic storytelling audio series, "The Feisty Beast".
Namakula was called to pursue the craft of acting from an early age and views it as an opportunity to tap into one's humanity, vulnerability and deep creativity in order to connect with, uplift, inspire, brighten, educate and empower others.
When she's not performing or producing, Namakula enjoys reading, researching, mentoring, lucid dreaming, composing dark tunes on the electric bass and spending time in the great outdoors, where she's learning logging, gardening and off-the-grid living.
