Biography
Matthew Avant is an American writer, director, editor, and producer whose career spans nearly three decades across television, documentary, and independent film. Raised in the deep South with a camera in hand, Avant first made waves with Lunopolis (2010), a micro-budget found-footage sci-fi feature that went on to win multiple festival awards, screen at festivals worldwide, and earn cult acclaim for its dense world-building and conspiracy-laced storytelling.
For over 10 years, Avant helped shape the voice of rural and western lifestyle television, writing, directing, and editing hundreds of hours of broadcast content for networks RFD-TV and The Cowboy Channel. His credits include Dude Ranch Roundup, RanchHer, The Rural Americans, and a reboot of the iconic Wild Kingdom series.
As a producer, his work has earned him a Suncoast Emmy, multiple Telly, Aurora and Videographer Awards. He received recognition from Cynopsis (2024 Best of the Best" Lifestyle Series) and Hermes Awards for both storytelling and craft. As a screenwriter, Avant's genre scripts - ranging from gothic westerns, to science fiction and existential horror - have been honored by Cinequest, Slamdance, BlueCat, Script Awards LA, and others. As a filmmaker, he earned festival awards for Best Screenplay, Best Feature, and Best Director, and his film Lunopolis was screened worldwide at festivals across 6 continents.
With a foot in both grounded documentary and elevated genre fiction, Avant's work often bridges emotional truth with speculative ideas. He is the founder of Media Savant LLC, a Nashville-based production company, and continues to develop feature and television projects that blend history, mystery, and the human condition.
