Scott Aaron Crary is a director and producer whose work covers film, television, music videos, and advertising. His award-winning debut feature, Kill Your Idols (2004), was created on a $300 budget when he was 26. This film launched a prolific career focused on documentary projects that explore various counterculture and musical subcultures, including William S. Burroughs: A Man Within (2010), Queercore: How To Punk A Revolution (2017), and Fire Music (2021).
His internationally acclaimed films have been showcased at major festivals such as Tribeca, SXSW, Sundance, and the New York Film Festival, among others. They have been distributed by platforms and companies like Showtime, PBS, Netflix, Arte, Criterion, Palm Pictures, and Oscilloscope Laboratories. Crary has also collaborated with notable figures including Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Waters, Martin Scorsese, Iggy Pop, America Ferrera, U2, and Cat Power, and contributed to advertising campaigns for brands like Coca-Cola, Nokia, Ray-Ban, Seagram's Gin, and Mazda.
