Biography
Shaquille Rashaun O'Neal (born March 6, 1972), known as "Shaq," is a retired American professional basketball player and current sports analyst on TNT's Inside the NBA. Standing 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) tall and weighing 325 pounds (147 kg), he is among the heaviest players to have played in the NBA. Over his 18-year career, O'Neal leveraged his size and strength to dominate in scoring and rebounding. After Lindsey Hunter retired on March 5, 2010, O'Neal became the oldest active NBA player.
O'Neal had a standout collegiate career at Louisiana State University before being selected first overall by the Orlando Magic in the 1992 NBA Draft. He quickly emerged as a top center, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 1992–93 and leading the Magic to the 1995 NBA Finals. After four seasons, he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent, winning three consecutive championships alongside Kobe Bryant in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Their relationship eventually soured, resulting in O'Neal's trade to the Miami Heat in 2004, where he won a fourth NBA title in 2006. Midway through the 2007–2008 season, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns. Following a season and a half, O'Neal was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, teaming up with LeBron James for the 2009–10 season. He spent the 2010–11 season with the Boston Celtics.
O'Neal's achievements include the 1999–2000 NBA MVP award, 1992–93 NBA Rookie of the Year, 15 All-Star selections, three All-Star Game MVP awards, three Finals MVP awards, two scoring titles, 14 All-NBA team selections, and three NBA All-Defensive Team honors. He is one of only three players to win the NBA MVP, All-Star Game MVP, and Finals MVP in the same year (2000), alongside Willis Reed (1970) and Michael Jordan (1996, 1998). He ranks fifth all-time in points and field goals, twelfth in rebounds, and seventh in blocks.
Beyond basketball, O'Neal has released four rap albums, with his debut, Shaq Diesel, achieving platinum status. He has appeared in numerous films and starred in reality shows such as Shaq's Big Challenge and Shaq Vs.
