Biography
Priyadarshan is an Indian filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter with a career spanning more than twenty years. He has directed over 80 films across various Indian languages, including Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Starting his career in Malayalam cinema in 1984, Priyadarshan has predominantly worked in Hindi cinema over the past decade. While he is best known for his comedy films, he has also explored action and thriller genres occasionally.
During the 1980s and 1990s, his collaborations with Mohanlal gained popularity in Malayalam cinema, featuring films like Boeing Boeing, Thalavattam, Vellanakalude Nadu, Chithram, Vandanam, Kilukkam, Abhimanyu, Mithunam, Thenmavin Kombath, and Kala Pani. He has frequently worked with actors such as Kuthiravattam Pappu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Nedumudi Venu, Sreenivasan, Sukumari, and Mukesh. Priyadarshan was among the first Indian directors to incorporate advanced color grading, clear sound, and high-quality dubbing in his early Malayalam films. Upon transitioning to Bollywood, he has often remade popular Malayalam comedies, including some of his own originals and others', with titles like Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Chup Chup Ke, Dhol, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. In Hindi cinema, he has repeatedly collaborated with actors such as Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar, Akshaye Khanna, and Suniel Shetty. His 2009 Tamil film Kanchivaram received the National Film Award for Best Film.
