Biography

Anny Papa is an Italian actress from Salerno who began her career after winning the Miss Cinema contest in the mid-1970s, which opened doors to modeling and acting. She debuted in film in 1978 with Das Lustschloß im Spessart and appeared in the Italian edition of Playboy in September 1979. Throughout the 1980s, she featured in various genre films, solidifying her role in Italian cinema. Her most prominent performance was in the 1983 giallo horror film A Blade in the Dark, directed by Lamberto Bava, where she played a supporting character in a suspenseful story about a composer haunted while scoring a horror movie. Papa also acted in Italian films such as Sweets from a Stranger (1987) as Monica, Below Zero (1987) as Athena, and Camorra (A Story of Streets, Women and Crime) (1985) as Elena. Her work extends to Uccelli d'Italia (1985) and the 1992 TV miniseries Piazza di Spagna, portraying Ismene in three episodes. Later, she briefly returned to television with a pianist role in the soap opera Centovetrine in 2009. While her filmography is not vast, Papa made a notable impact in Italian horror and crime cinema during the 1980s. Her role in A Blade in the Dark remains her most recognized work, continuing to attract cult film fans and genre retrospectives. Anny Papa’s career illustrates the path of a beauty pageant winner who transitioned into acting, leaving a memorable mark on several Italian thrillers and maintaining a legacy among fans of 1980s Italian horror.
