Biography

Emmy-nominated composer, producer, and pioneering synthesist Steve Horelick has dedicated over forty years to transforming the way audiences engage with music. Renowned for the iconic Reading Rainbow theme, Steve has been a trailblazer in electronic performance since the 1970s, exploring the possibilities of modular synthesis with the Buchla and blending live improvisation with storytelling. As a co-founder of the Electronic Art Ensemble, he played a key role in introducing innovative live electronic performances and interactive sound well before these methods became mainstream. Today, he continues to push boundaries with immersive concerts featuring the Buchla Music Easel, 200e Skylab system, ZenDrum, and hybrid modular setups. Whether composing, performing, or teaching, Steve is fueled by an enduring curiosity about music’s potential and the transformative power of technology.
