Biography

He began his career as a reporter, following in his father's footsteps, specializing in theatre reviews before eventually transitioning to acting. At 18, he made his stage debut and became a leading man in 1935 with the renowned Margarita Xirgu company. The troupe was touring South America when the Spanish Civil War erupted in 1936. They remained there, and Diosdado worked extensively in both theater and film. With his first wife, Isabel Gisbert, he had a daughter who later became a playwright. In 1943, he married his second wife, actress Amelia de la Torre, the leading lady of the Xirgu company, and they had a son named Enrique. In 1950, they returned to Spain, joining the María Guerrero theatre company as a leading man, and seven years later, he founded his own company where he acted and directed both modern and classical plays. He skillfully balanced his work between theatre and film. On stage, he portrayed Don Juan in a 1950 production featuring Salvador Dalí’s set designs and performed in many Federico García Lorca plays. On screen, he was primarily recognized for dramatic roles. He also appeared in some of his daughter's early plays before retiring in 1978 due to a thrombosis.
