He is a Mexican wrestler whose real identity remains unknown, as he competes wearing a mask. He is known by several nicknames, including The Idol of the Children, The Prince of Atlantis, Atlantis Badness, The Idol of the Rude Children, The Ogre of the Children, Atlantis Legend, and Atlantis the King.
His son is the masked wrestler Atlantis Jr., and his brother is the masked wrestler Atlántico. He was trained by Diablo Velazco. He made his debut on June 12, 1983, at Pista Arena Revolución in Mexico City, though records suggest he may have wrestled outside Mexico City as early as September 1982.
He stands 5'8" (177 cm) tall and weighs 202 lbs (92 kg).
Throughout his career, he has defended his mask in wager matches 18 times, unmasking opponents such as Mano Negra, Kung Fu, Ultimo Guerrero, and Villano III. Originally a técnico (babyface), Atlantis turned rudo (heel) in 2005. This change appeared to be driven by the fans rather than the wrestler or the promotion. CMLL had been promoting Atlantis heavily, featuring weekly Sección Azul segments highlighting his work with children and celebrating awards given to him, positioning him as the ultimate hero. This buildup was intended to lead to a mask match against Dr. Wagner Jr., the climax of a long-standing rivalry.
Unexpectedly for the promotion, when fans realized the anticipated mask match would take place, they turned against Atlantis and vocally supported Dr. Wagner Jr. Wagner had turned técnico in 2004, gaining fan support as a new hero following his father’s death. At the time, Dr. Wagner Jr. was enjoying a surge of técnico popularity, while Atlantis remained unchanged, having slowed down in performance after many years in the ring.
