Biography

Mark Goodman has built a successful career in the music industry and entertainment over more than forty years, transitioning smoothly from radio to television and film. He began at a local Philadelphia radio station, rising to music director by 1978.

In 1980, Goodman moved to New York City to work at WPLJ, the city's leading rock station. In 1981, he left WPLJ to join the then-new MTV, becoming one of its original five VJs from 1981 to 1987. During his time on MTV, he interviewed numerous music and entertainment stars and hosted several special programs such as The Week In Rock, 120 Minutes, and The Top 20 Video Countdown—the first syndicated show broadcast by MTV.

In the late 1980s, Goodman shifted focus toward acting, appearing in films like Police Academy 6: City Under Siege (1989) and Man Trouble (1992), and TV shows including Married With Children and The Practice.

By the mid-2000s, he returned to VH-1 and VH-1 Classic to conduct interviews and host specials, while maintaining a continuous presence on SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

Mark Goodman is recognized as a radio DJ, TV personality, and actor, famously one of MTV's original five VJs from 1981 to 1987. Although intended to be the first VJ on MTV’s debut broadcast on August 1, 1981, a sequencing error resulted in him being the last to introduce himself following the airing of "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles and "You Better Run" by Pat Benatar.
