Biography
Amber Sealey is an acclaimed filmmaker and actor, born in England and raised in New Mexico. Her latest film, NO LIGHT AND NO LAND ANYWHERE, premiered at the LA Film Festival, earning a Special Jury Award. IndieWire praised the film, stating it could “further cement Sealey’s reputation as one of the most promising directors of female-driven stories working in the U.S. today.”
Executive Produced by Miranda July, NO LIGHT AND NO LAND ANYWHERE also won the Indie Vision Breakthrough Feature Film Award at the Twin Cities Film Festival and was scheduled for theatrical release in 2017.
Her second feature, HOW TO CHEAT, which she wrote, directed, and starred in, received the Best Performance Award at the LA Film Festival, and both the Best Narrative Film Award and Best Acting Award at BendFilm. Critics described it as “amazing… laugh-out-loud hilarious” and “one of the most relevant and eloquent portraits of modern marriage to date.” HOW TO CHEAT was distributed by FilmBuff.
Amber’s debut film, A PLUS D, premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival, with critics noting, “Fact and fiction are obliterated… edgy, anguished, funny… The acting is astonishing… I thought of Cassavetes, Winterbottom.” The film was distributed by IndiePix Films.
She was selected for Film Independent’s Directing Lab and Fast Track program with her feature script NEW MEXICAN RAIN. Amber directed Miranda July (ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW) in her scene for the short film Somebody and has worked with director Mike Mills (20TH CENTURY WOMEN), pre-directing actors for commercials. She extensively shadowed director Jamie Babbit on Kay Cannon’s Netflix series Girlboss, and also shadowed Jill Soloway and Marta Cunningham on Soloway’s Amazon series Transparent.
Her education includes the University of California, Santa Cruz, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and the Central School of Speech and Drama.
As a performer and creator, Amber spent seven years in London working with the award-winning physical theatre company SHUNT, and appeared in numerous films and television shows. She is an experienced audiobook narrator and voice-over artist and teaches a weekly acting class. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two children.
