Biography
Jorge Antares, is a Puerto Rican actor, director, producer, and writer with a career spanning over four decades in theater, television, and film.
Antares began his artistic journey at an early age, performing in school theater before transitioning into professional productions as a teenager. By 16, he starred in the musical Godspell, marking the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the performing arts. At 18, he founded his first theater company, Entreactos, Inc., and became actively involved in the Caguas Theater Festival, earning multiple awards including Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Producer.
He graduated from New York University (NYU), where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television Production in 1984. While in New York, he also trained in acting, dance, and voice, further shaping his multidisciplinary approach to performance.
Throughout his career, Antares has portrayed a wide range of roles on stage, including Jesus in "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", Don Quixote in "Man of La Mancha", and Yago in "Othello". On television, he has appeared in popular Spanish-language soap operas such as "El Culpable", "Señora Tentación", "Don Amor", "Al Borde Del Deseo", and "Dueña y Señora", as well as various series and variety programs.
In film, he gained recognition for his role as Federico López in "The Witness / El Testigo", followed by performances in "Los Domirriqueños", "Los Reyes", "Back to the Beginning", "Hollywood Deal", "Padres", and "El Método". As a member of SAG-AFTRA, he has also participated in international productions including "Force of Nature", "Panama", "Island Heat", and series such as "Startup" and "The Oath".
As a filmmaker, Antares directed his first feature film, "Hollywood Deal" (2023), after previously earning recognition for his short films "Gobernanza" (2016) and "Damn" (2023), which received awards at multiple international festivals. He is the founder of Antares Productions, Inc., under which he continues to develop film projects, including Shakti: The Battle Continues (2025).
In addition to his work in film and television, Antares has directed numerous theatrical productions and has written and composed works for the stage, particularly in children’s theater. His contributions to the arts were recognized in 2012 when the Caguas Theater Festival was dedicated to him.
In 2025, he received a Paoli Award in the Latin Film category for his direction of "Hollywood Deal" and his contributions to cinema. Antares remains an active and influential figure in Puerto Rico’s cultural landscape, committed to storytelling and the development of new artistic voices.
