Biography
Giuseppe Schillaci was born in Catania, Sicily, where he began his acting career thanks to Manuela Metri and Fioretta Mari. In Italy, he appeared in numerous plays, notably starring in "La Scapricciata" alongside Fioretta Mari, directed by Manuela Metri. He also featured in the TV series Il Commissario Montalbano, directed by Alberto Sironi, portraying Rosario Lauricella, and appeared in two episodes of the TV series Squadra Antimafia as Remo Pennino.
In 2010, Anna Strasberg selected him at a seminar in Rome, awarding him a scholarship to attend the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York and West Hollywood, where he lived for eight years. In 2013, in Los Angeles, he played Tom Collins in the musical RENT, directed by Troy Rintala. Giuseppe portrayed Mr. Jacob Engstrand in the play "Ghosts," directed by Neno Pervan, and starred as the main character, Luigi, in the short film "The Dilemma," directed by Luca Spensieri.
He also appeared in a Kia web commercial as "The Man with the Pink Scarf," directed by Alejandro Trevino, and played Rafael in the short film Widows, directed by Ian Fisher. As a director, Giuseppe created two short films: "Corri" in Italy, which was a finalist at the Rome International Film Festival Tulipani di Seta Nera, and "Without Words" in Los Angeles, which he both wrote and directed.
In 2014, he played the lead role of Marcello in the short film Ciao Marcello and starred as Carlo in the feature film The Italian, earning a Best Actor nomination at the New York Independent Film Festival. In 2016, RAI called him back to Italy to portray Salvatore Niscemi in the TV series Il Commissario Montalbano and Loris Misilimeri in the TV series Maltese il Romanzo del Commissario.
During 2017 and 2018, Giuseppe played Sciaverio Pipitone in the TV movie La Mossa Del Cavallo. In 2019, he starred in The Name of The Rose and in the film Il Mio Corpo Vi Seppellirà, directed by Giovanni La Parola, playing the character Rosario. Also in 2019, the movie Persian Lessons, directed by Vadim Perelman, was released featuring him as Marco, an Italian Jew.
