Biography

Jean Ferniot (10 October 1918 – 21 July 2012) was a French journalist and novelist who received the Prix Interallié in 1961.

Born in Paris on 10 October 1918, Ferniot was raised in the city's 14th arrondissement. Orphaned at age eight after his mother's death, he was brought up as a Roman Catholic and once considered a vocation in the priesthood.

He attended Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris and served briefly in World War II, earning the Croix de Guerre for his service.

Ferniot started his journalism career at Agence France-Presse, later working for Franc-Tireur and France Soir. He joined L'Express as a political and culinary columnist and contributed to Radio Luxembourg until 1983.

As an author, Ferniot published several books, winning the Prix Interallié in 1961 for L’Ombre portée. He was honored as a Commander of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Married three times, Ferniot had five children, including two sons, Vincent and Simon Ferniot, with his second wife, journalist Christiane Collange.

He passed away in Paris on 21 July 2012 at the age of 93.
