Biography

Sean O'Kane was raised in Cambuslang, a neighborhood on the outskirts of Glasgow, in a family with twelve siblings. Naturally, casting was simple when staging small plays for family members. He continued performing during school and, at 19, after serving in the territorial army, Sean embarked on a global journey, trying his hand at stunt work, modeling, and acting in student films—constantly refining his craft as an actor. He arrived in Hollywood in the early 1980s. A young teenager with a thick mustache helped him secure his first role as Precinct cop Det. McKenzie on Cagney and Lacey. When the cast and crew learned of his youth and that he was living in a truck in the parking lot, they took him under their wing. Over three years and forty-five episodes, he appeared in many shows. His strong Glasgow accent initially limited his speaking roles on the show, but this changed later in his career. After recording the Prime of Miss Jean Brody on tape at Tyne Daly’s request, she encouraged him to learn various accents to expand his abilities—advice he took seriously. He left the show at Christmas 1985 after being scouted by LA Models, who sent him to Europe, where he spent the next three years traveling the world nonstop as a model. Combining luck with preparation, Sean landed his first lead role in the British TV series Interceptor (1989). He starred and co-starred in films such as Magic Island (1995), Stone Soup (1993), and TV shows including Dream Team (1997), Sharpe’s Justice (1997), and Taggart, as well as providing numerous voiceovers for films like Million Dollar Baby, Patriot Games, and Blown Away. His career has continually progressed and flourished.
