JOE SUBA
Joe Suba never intended to become an action film star. Yet, despite never attending an audition or receiving formal training, he has built an impressive career with 13 films in just ten years.
An only child, Suba was born and raised in Harlem, New York. A highly driven, type A personality who never did anything halfway, he excelled naturally in boxing and martial arts, earning a black belt in karate at a young age. While training at a small Harlem boxing gym, legendary film producer Roger Corman discovered him. Initially cast as a boxing extra in Rage and Discipline (2004), Corman and director Brian Clyde quickly recognized Suba’s talent, casting him as the lead and making him Associate Producer. His expertise in hand-to-hand combat, knife fighting, gun handling, and performing his own stunts added to his appeal. Set in New York City, Rage and Discipline was praised as an authentic, gritty urban drama and gained cult status among indie film enthusiasts. By 2014, Suba had appeared in 13 films, including four war movies produced by Corman.
In 2008, Suba starred in Opium War, directed by Siddiq Barmark, who won a Golden Globe for the acclaimed Osama (2003). Filmed in Afghanistan, Suba portrayed one of two wounded American soldiers stranded in the desert alongside Peter Bussian. Opium War won Best Foreign Film at the 2008 Rome International Film Festival, and Suba earned Best Actor at the Kish International Film Festival in Iran. Most recently, he appeared in Operation Rogue (2014), a Corman production starring Marc Dacascos, Sofia Pernas, and Treat Williams.
Suba considers his most challenging and rewarding role to be his real-life job as a father to two sons. He stays actively involved in their education and basketball pursuits, helping them stay focused and enthusiastic about life’s possibilities. His dedication as a role model is something from which we can all draw inspiration.
Though acting was never part of his original plan, fate, determination, and his unwavering professionalism have guided Suba toward stardom. Where his journey leads next remains to be seen—but for now, he continues to inspire.
